With the Runelord of Greed defeated, the imminent threat to the continent of Varisia was abated. And while Xin-Shalast remained as dangerous a place as ever, the ensuing chaos surrounding Karzoug’s death provided ample opportunity for the heroes to escape the City of Greed.
And so the heroes returned to Sandpoint, the small town where their journey first began. And so it was on this day, the 1st of Gozran that Father Zantus declared a holiday in Sandpoint in honor of the adventurers – “Heroes Day”, a holiday that eclipsed the Swallowtail festival in popularity.
As the festival died down, with their adventure concluded, the Heroes of Sandpoint said farewell and went their separate ways.
- Zander returned to the ancient halls of Runeforge to continue studying the ways of Thassilonian magic.
- Sarruk, returned to Claybottom Lake in search of Black Magga and eventually caught and slayed the beast. In his travels, he learned that there were others of her type in the Inner Sea region, known as the Mothers of Oblivian, and he set out to hunt them all.
- Midna took up residence in Sandpoint where she opened an academy to train future adventurers with Shalelu.
- Morthos returned to Xin-Shalast, still crawling with rune giants and other powerful creatures, and became leader of The Spared.
Most of the people of Varisia never knew the full extent of the threat they faced, but still they told the tale of the heroes, entertaining children with the exploits of the adventurers who fought an army of giants and killed ancient dragons.
While minor events would occur that disrupted the lives of Varisians, the next seven years were largely quiet.
During that time, some of Varisia’s greatest minds plotted and planned, for though Karzoug had been defeated and his plan unraveled, the threat that he represented was far from over.
